About The Book

‘Where Has My Baby Gone’ provides an accessible approach for adults to discuss the topic of miscarriage with children; whether they/someone they know has lost a baby recently or years before.

Ginny and Gerry, two giraffes, meet and fall in love at the African dance when Ginny cannot help but laugh at Gerry’s terrible dancing. Over time, Gerry notices that Ginny is acting strangely; from her emotions to sleeping all the time and feeling nauseous. He puts the symptoms together, working out that they are having a baby! Gerry shows excitement for the future whilst Ginny enjoys the most unusual cravings.

“If you look up to the stars above, you’ll find the ones you love”

One night Ginny wakes up, feeling that something isn’t right. They rush to the hospital. At the hospital the ultrasound reveals that Ginny miscarried the baby. Whilst Ginny wonders ‘Where Has My Baby Gone?’ a variety of African animals share their ideas of what happens next to baby giraffe, including concepts such as heaven, reincarnation, and a rainbow bridge that baby giraffe could cross.

Ginny and Gerry are comforted at the end with the thought that whenever they look up at the night’s sky, the brightest star is baby giraffe looking back at them: “If you look up to the stars above, you’ll find the ones you love”.
