About The Author

Anna is an Early Years/Key Stage 1 teacher who has been teaching for the past decade. As a teacher, she has shared a love of reading with her classes, particularly picture books. She also sees how picture books and storytelling can support children as they transition through difficult situations and emotions.

When Anna suffered two miscarriages, she didn’t know how to deal with the situation. Anna found that those around her also weren’t sure how to react and how to support her and her husband. It felt like a taboo subject that so many people had been through and did not openly discuss. It could feel isolating, but the more Anna talked to others, the more others opened up about their similar experiences and the angel babies they would never forget.

Anna found an outlet through writing. She wanted to remember her angel babies and so ‘Where Has My Baby Gone’ began...

Anna included her and her husband’s feelings and experiences including some strange cravings! Since beginning to write her story, Anna was pregnant for a third time. Now she could see how developing her story further could help her son understand about his older angel siblings.

Anna felt that by taking one step back and using animal characters, she could make the topic of miscarriage more accessible for both adults and children. A giraffe cuddly toy was the first thing Anna wanted to buy before her first miscarriage, so Ginny and Gerry the Giraffes became the main characters. The more Anna wrote, the more she realised that this book could provide support for more than her family. She realised this book could support adults to begin the discussion with their children, following a recent miscarriage, as well as a miscarriage that had happened years before.

Anna hopes that, by publishing her book, she can provide support to children and families who are looking for a way to talk about their loss.
